Why We Host Pakistani Websites on VPS Instead of Shared Plans
Shared hosting packs many customers onto one server and divides its resources between them. It looks cheap, but the hidden costs show up quickly: slow pages when another site is busy, disabled PHP functions your plugin needs, email sent from an IP address that someone else got blacklisted, and support tickets that end with a request to upgrade.
We decided not to sell shared plans at all. Every website we host runs on a Pakistan VPS with resources reserved for its owner. Even the entry plan, at US$22.95 per month, gives you your own operating system, your own IP address, full root access and NVMe storage. For a single business site that is a big step up in reliability; for an agency or reseller it is a platform on which to host many client sites under one bill.
The trade-off is that a VPS needs a little more setup. The sections below show how to do it, and our technical team can answer questions through tickets.
How Hosting in Karachi Speeds Up Sites for Pakistani Visitors
Most Pakistani internet users browse on mobile connections. Every image, script and font your page loads requires a round trip between the visitor and your server. When the server is in Europe or North America, each trip crosses international links; when it is in Karachi or Islamabad, it stays on shorter domestic routes.
The benefit adds up across a typical page with dozens of resources, and it is most noticeable on first visits, checkout pages and logged-in dashboards that cannot be fully cached by a CDN. Faster pages lower bounce rates and support rankings in local search results.
If your audience is split between Pakistan and the diaspora in the Gulf, UK or North America, Karachi is a good compromise. It sits next to the SEA-ME-WE 6 and PEACE cable landings, so overseas visitors also get a reasonable route to your site, and you can add a CDN for static files if needed.
Choosing a VPS Size for Your Website Portfolio
Website hosting needs vary widely, so match the plan to what you actually run.
- One business website or blog: the entry plans with 1 to 2 cores and 2 to 4 GB RAM are usually enough, especially with caching enabled.
- Several small sites plus email: a plan with around 4 cores and 8 GB RAM gives room for a control panel, mail server, spam filtering and multiple PHP sites.
- Agency or reseller hosting: middle and upper plans with 8 cores and 16 to 32 GB RAM handle dozens of client sites, each in its own account.
- E-commerce: stores with large catalogues and many simultaneous shoppers need more RAM for the database and caches.
All plans include 50 GB of NVMe storage and between 1000 GB and 6000 GB of monthly traffic. If your sites store large media libraries, keep images optimised or consider an Islamabad dedicated server with HDD capacity.
Control Panels for Hosting Sites on a Pakistani VPS
A control panel turns a bare server into a hosting platform with a web interface for domains, email, databases and files. With root access you can install any panel. Common choices include:
Commercial panels
cPanel/WHM is familiar to most Pakistani web designers and resellers and runs on AlmaLinux or Rocky Linux. Plesk runs on Linux and Windows and suits teams who host both PHP and ASP.NET sites. Both require a licence from their vendors.
Free and open-source panels
Options such as HestiaCP, CloudPanel, aaPanel and Virtualmin provide website, database and SSL management without licence fees. They suit developers and smaller agencies who want to keep costs down.
No panel at all
Experienced administrators often configure Nginx or Apache, PHP-FPM and MariaDB directly, which uses fewer resources and gives full control. This works well for a single high-traffic site.
Install the panel on a freshly provisioned server, before adding anything else, to avoid conflicts with existing software.
Installing SSL on Websites Hosted in Pakistan
Every website should load over HTTPS. Browsers warn visitors about unencrypted pages, search engines prefer secure sites, and payment gateways require HTTPS on checkout pages.
On a VPS, most control panels can issue and renew free Let's Encrypt certificates automatically for each domain you add. Without a panel, the Certbot tool does the same job from the command line. Make sure your domain's DNS already points to the server before requesting a certificate, because the issuing authority needs to reach your site to verify it.
Some organisations, such as banks, government suppliers or large clients, ask for commercial certificates with organisation validation. You can install those on your VPS as well. After enabling SSL, redirect all HTTP traffic to HTTPS and update internal links so browsers do not show mixed-content warnings.
Running Business Email for .pk and Other Domains
Hosting email on your own VPS gives you addresses on your domain without per-mailbox fees. A few settings make the difference between mail that arrives and mail that lands in spam.
- Set a reverse DNS (PTR) record for your server IP that matches your mail hostname; open a technical ticket to ask about setting it.
- Publish SPF to list the servers allowed to send mail for your domain.
- Enable DKIM signing in your control panel and publish the public key in DNS.
- Add a DMARC record to tell receiving servers how to treat messages that fail checks.
- Install spam filtering such as SpamAssassin or Rspamd for incoming mail.
Avoid sending bulk marketing email from the same server as your business mail; use a dedicated sending service so newsletter complaints cannot affect your everyday correspondence.
Raw hardware is only part of performance. Good configuration often matters more.
- Use PHP-FPM with OPcache so PHP code is compiled once and served from memory.
- Add page caching through Nginx FastCGI cache, LiteSpeed cache or an application plugin.
- Use object caching with Redis or Memcached for database-heavy sites.
- Enable Gzip or Brotli compression for text resources.
- Serve images in WebP or AVIF and resize them to the dimensions actually displayed.
- Set long cache headers for static files so returning visitors load less.
For bilingual Urdu and English sites, pay attention to web fonts. Nastaliq fonts are large, so subset them and serve them from your own server with compression.
A Backup Routine for Sites Hosted in Karachi or Islamabad
Backups protect you from hacked plugins, accidental deletions and failed updates. A reliable routine has three parts.
Frequency: back up databases at least daily for active sites, and files at least weekly. Stores and portals with constant changes may need more frequent database backups.
Location: store copies away from the server they protect. A simple approach is a small second VPS in the other city, so a Karachi production server backs up to Islamabad or the other way round. Cloud storage buckets also work well.
Testing: a backup you have never restored is only a hope. Restore a site to a test subdomain every few months to confirm the process works and to know how long it takes.
Most control panels include backup tools that handle scheduling and retention, and many can send backups to remote storage automatically.
Protecting Websites on a Pakistani VPS
Your VPS gives you control over security, which is an advantage when you use it well.
- Keep CMS cores, themes and plugins updated; outdated plugins are the most common way sites are compromised.
- Isolate each site in its own system user or panel account so one compromised site cannot reach others.
- Use a web application firewall such as ModSecurity with a maintained rule set.
- Enforce strong admin passwords and two-factor login for CMS dashboards and the control panel.
- Restrict SSH and panel access to known IP addresses where practical.
- Scan for malware regularly with tools such as ClamAV or Imunify.
Hosting Client Sites for Pakistani Agencies and Freelancers
Many of our customers are web designers and agencies who build sites for local businesses. A Pakistan VPS lets them offer hosting as part of their service.
- Create a separate account for each client with its own quota, databases and email.
- Give clients limited panel access to manage mailboxes without touching server settings.
- Bill clients in rupees while paying for the server by card, PayPal, bank transfer or crypto.
- Keep a staging copy of each site for testing changes before they go live.
- Upgrade the VPS as your client list grows instead of managing dozens of separate shared accounts.
Because every site lives in Pakistan, local clients get fast load times, and you have one server to monitor and maintain.
Getting Your Website Live on a Pakistan VPS
Order a VPS plan in Karachi or Islamabad, choose Linux or Windows, and pay by crypto, Visa, Mastercard, PayPal or bank transfer. The server is provisioned within 3 to 24 hours. Then install your control panel, add your domain, issue SSL, upload your site or migrate it from your old host, and point your DNS to the new server.
If you still need a domain, search for .pk and other extensions on the domains page. For WordPress specifically, see the WordPress hosting guide. Questions can be sent as tickets in the client area at control.serverslot.com.
